Common Garage Door Opener Problems And Self-Repair Techniques .
When it comes to fixing a garage door, money speaks high most of the times. Simple fixation by a professional expert can cost you more dollars.
But most are minor issues and can be fixed easily provided you have a little bit of skill. So let’s get started with this short yet effective garage door opener repair knowledge supplement.
The garage door opener is a device that allows the user to open and close a garage door from inside the house. It uses all kinds of mechanical, electrical and electronic components, which are joined together in different ways to operate the garage door.
If your home’s garage door opener does not work, it could be due to one or more of these common problems:
Low power – A low power indicator light on a remote control might also be flashing indicating this issue .
Faulty wiring – Check for loose wires between two sections of the same circuit board. Loose wires can cause an intermittent connection that will cause the remote to stop working.
Motor – If the garage door opener motor is faulty, replace it with a new one.
Faulty remote control – If a particular function of your remote control will not work, it could be due to a bad battery or a broken wire on the circuit board.
Power Issues:
Suppose instead of repetitive attempts the door is not functioning through remote, check the power input section. Sometimes, it may happen that due to the tripping of breakers from the main power supply of the house, the power breaks off; you may need to reset that again.
Lock Status:
Make sure; you have not locked your garage door opener. Check the master panel and confirm that. it is a green light.

If you’re still here, please go to the home screen by pressing the button on your garage door opener.
Sensor Issue:
It is a common issue. Sensors are present few inches above the ground level. So garbage can block the targeted beam to reach the other side thereby causing the malfunctioning. Make sure it is a farm, and the LED’s are glowing. Also, check to see, the wires are not broken.
If this does not work, call the customer service line and they will help troubleshoot.
Remote Battery Dead:
Have the right battery or replace it with a requisite one if you feel like the remote is not working anyway. Your keypad also has a battery inside, probably a 9 volt; don’t forget to check that one too as well.
Broken Antenna Wire:
Suppose, you see everything is okay till now, the next thing you check is the Garage Door Motor. Remove the power supply and remove the screws to open the back cover. There will be Antenna wire inside. Make sure, it is well connected and is not broken.
If it is broken, replace the motor.
Remove the power supply from the wall outlet. Take off the coating from one of the terminals and insert it into one of your wiring strands.
Do not use too much force as to push any wires back into their sockets. Take out all other terminals, until you are left with just one wire and attached grounding wire (or green ground) in each strand.
Strip off about 2 inches worth of insulation off both ends if possible (there may be a foil cover that needs removing), then twist together so that all color codes match up on each other.
The Problem In LED Bulb Interference:
Radio frequency interference of LEDs also does matter. Most time extra LEDs present nearby produce frequencies those clashes with the openers and cause malfunctioning.
Circuit Board Dead:
While opening the garage door motor, do check for the circuit board. It could get damaged because of lightning or any power surge created in near past. If it is so, note your model number written above the motor and order the circuit board from E-bay or Amazon.
If the motor is still not operating, check the battery too. It is possible that it has been dead for a while or it is getting discharged rapidly. Switch on the power of your surrounding to make it recharge.
Leaky Capacitor:
The capacitor does most of the heavy things inside the motor, and if it fails, your gate may not operate at all. Plugging it in and out is very easy, just have it replaced with the requisite one.
Gears Worn Out:
If you see a lot of brown and black patches over the gears, then it’s time to replace them. Over the gear shaft, there present is a chain. If it is too tight in coupling to the other side, it affects the smoothness.
Door Balance:
Also, do not forget to check whether the door is balanced or not along with the spring. You can easily verify this by few simple steps. First, let the door be closed completely. Then pull the safety cord to detach the string from the pulley. Slowly lift the door up to waist level and release. If it stays there then it’s okay. Otherwise, you need to replace the strings.
And finally, if you have a wooden door then it should be cleaned from time to time. This will prevent the damage caused by the moisture and rot.
Hope these guidelines will help you in dealing with garage door opener repair by yourself.
